Elliott’s picture

colourful mixed media picture featuring insects, butterflies, snails and other tiny creatures crawling among leaves and flowers.

What’s it made from?

I love working with natural fibres, and the background was an excuse to hand-dye a lovely piece of old linen. There are 13 pairs of insects, each individually hand-crafted from fabrics, needle-felting and further embellished with hand-embroidery. The leaves came to life, delving into my stash of saved fabric scraps for a variety of colours and textures. Many of the elements are created with heirloom-grade wool felt, a joy to work with and stitch on.

This was lots of fun to make, and I think that comes across in the finished piece.

How long did it take?

I stopped counting after 40 or so hours! Made with much love for my Grandson’s birthday, and it was about creating something special to treasure for years to come.

Can you make me one?

While this is an original, I’d be happy to discuss a commission for something similar.
